The Remainder of Winter

Truthfully, winter is still happening in Driggs right now, but I'm okay with that. This year I'm actually more okay with the snow that's around than any other year. Maybe it's because we've been able to escape to some for the past three months. Before we get on to the crazy stuff, the pandemic, let me catch up on a few other things that happened this past winter.

The first noteworthy activity was Boyd's traveling basketball team. He was invited to play with some other boys in 5th grade and spent 3 days a week either practicing or playing a game. Most of the games were in Rexburg, which made it hard for the whole family to go out to. It seemed good for Boyd to have an activity to work hard at. Basketball doesn't come as naturally to him as baseball, but he gave it a good effort and progressed through the season. Sadly, the season was cut short due to the Corona Virus, which pretty much ended all activities, but I'll save more details on that for another post.
The kids also had a lot of fun skiing this year. Everyone got better, but with Riggs, it was hard to go up as much as the past year. We are hoping that by next year, he'll be able to come up with us some of the time as well. I will not be surprised if he ends up being our youngest skier and totally rocking it. He already wants to keep up with the big kids as much as possible.
Speaking of Riggs, he is now nearly 16 months old and learning so much, soaking lots in. He can sign more, all done, milk, and please. He waves, blows kisses, gives loves and make animals noises, chicken, elephant, snake and dog, which is his favorite. He LOOOOOVES dogs. We also recently found out that he loves dirt bikes too. A lot. He just cut 2 more teeth, his top right fang and bottom left fang, making his total number of teeth 14. Sheesh!! He's still a great eater, but has a bad habit of throwing his food on the floor if he doesn't want it...maybe it's time for a dog? He has an amazing schedule and sleeps so good. I'm one blessed momma. He starting to actually listen now when we ask him not to do something, like to not go in to the street because it's dangerous. Obviously he's not reliable, but it's a little glimmer of hope that he won't be totally out of control as a toddler. He's also really tough, don't cry too much when he gets hurt. The other day he fell and scraped up his knees, they were bleeding and it hardly phased him. It's a good thing that he is so tough, since he's still our most adventurous and crazy kid...I'm sure he'll end up being the one with the most broken bones.
In between school and on the weekends we've been doing other winter and snowy activities. I've been out on the skate skids a bit when Riggs naps and Phil's been out on his timbersled a time or two as well. We've had some pretty awesome snow this year, so that's been extra fun. Snow machines have been the best snow activity or maybe the most used. Brew got in the habit of doing in homework on the ride home from school so that he could go ride snow machines with his best friend down the road. They would ride every day after school until dinner time. It was magical. We also went out on a few family snow machine rides as well, which was awesome and always so beautiful.
At the end of February, a new lower elementary was finished being built and we had a ribbon cutting ceremony. It was a long time coming and such a great event to be able to introduce the kids to their new school!! The best part for Brewer was that the school was close enough that he would now be able to snow machine to school! Every day, we starts up the snow machine and rides to school and parks it out back. Then he rides it home with his friend who does the same!
It's amazing and so fun for him. I mean really, what kid gets to ride a snow mobile to school!!
