Annual Cardiology Check-Up

Mid-September Brew had his annual heart check up at PCH! While it's a whirlwind day, lots of driving, we have such a fun time being together and running through all the stops. By stops I mean, gas, food and the hospital and probably food again. Ha! Doctor Williams reported good heart function and every year that phrase is a huge sigh of relief and weight off our shoulders! We are so grateful that Brew is doing awesome! This year, with covid, has been really scary, filled with lots of tears and anxiety around Brewer's health. It's been a rollercoaster of unknown and uncertainty trying to figure out what the best way to protect Brewer and move forward with our family. We are extremely grateful to everyone who is on our tribe. I was surprised by many texts and thoughts surrounding Brewer's well-being, it made my heart swell! The first few years with Brewer were hard and scary and long, but we had a killer support team. Sometimes I forget how invested everyone else was during these quiet years, but I was so tickled to know that the team is still out there!!

Now that it's been quite a few more months since his check up and the covid rock has been kicked a little further down the road, there have been some silver linings. Here are just a few that I feel like are worth mentioning: covid was a part of the equation to switch Brewer over to Victor Elementary and that has been SO good for him and for our family. I also think the friends he's making over there, will be a big and lasting benefit to him. Another positive aspect, that is purely selfish, is that I have lived a few months this past year, not worried about Brewer's getting germs. At the beginning of quarantine it was scary because of the unknown and then again when school started. But in-between, we lived knowing we weren't around germs and Brewer would be safe. It was the first time in nearly 8 years that I didn't worry about germs or about Brewer getting sick. That was pretty eye opening to me. After the initial anxiety settled down after school started, I was so happy with the precautions they were taking to keep everyone healthy, namely that they were taking temperatures as kids came to school. This helps keep so many germs out of school and I actually hope they do that forever! We have been so healthy this past year. Sure we have had a cold here or there, but nothing very bad and Brewer actually hasn't caught anything! Or at least anything that I can think of!! (Oh! There was a tummy bug back at the beginning of quarantine, but we arne't afraid of those!). Any ways, long story short, it's been a rollercoaster. It's been that way for everyone. There have been some hard decisions to make and I am so thankful for all of Brewer's doctors who have helped us along the path. I am also thankful for personal revelation and a God who is mindful of us and wants success for us because He loves us. Here's to hoping and praying for another great check up in 2021!
