We had another full spring with little league and t-ball. Both Phil and I agreed to help coach Boyd and Brew's teams, so we were pretty busy running around getting to practices. We were pleasantly surprised at how much more Brewer liked t-ball this year. He really seemed to enjoy most everything, but especially batting. It was also really enjoyable to watch Boyd move up a league. Phil and Boyd spent a lot of time not at practices, catching, pitching and hitting. At one extra practice with Dad, Boyd was practicing his fielding and landed a baseball smack in the middle of his forehead. He dropped straight to the ground screaming. I expected blood and stitches, but thankfully he came away with a good battle wound, scab in the pattern of the stitches on the ball.
Boyd had the opportunity to pitch a couple of games. The first game went pretty poorly, but you have to start somewhere, right? The next game, he pitched to 4 batters and managed 3 strike outs. We were so proud. Most of all, we noticed that Boyd had a lot of skill at first base. He played that position most of the year and did really well there. Maybe it is because he's left-handed, but he has good hand-eye coordination and can catch most balls that are thrown his way. Boyd's team went to the championship game at the end of the season. Sadly, they lost and even worse Boyd stuck out with the bases loaded to end the game and season. He took it pretty hard, but that game was definitely a team loss and not an individual loss for Boyd. It broke my heart (even though I was on my way to our YW retreat in SLC) because I know how much that kid loves baseball. We can't wait for next season and to see how he progresses over time! He has some really good natural talent!
