Winter Sports Ski Races

We had a great year with winter sports. We, well it was probably more me, was a little worried about sending Brewer up on the ski hill all by himself of the whole day. Honestly, he probably would have been better without me, but I think in the end the instructor was glad to have an extra helping hand to ride up the lifts with. Brewer did awesome for his first year. He had his moments where he was not confident and little nervous and other times when he just flew!! The group he was in consisted of Abby Kunz and Ryker Moss, which was really fun to have them in the group together, they are such fun and nice kids! The other people in our group were also really cute and awesome too, it was fun to get to know them! Boyd had a good year. He really liked his instructor, although he came away from the season not liking the bigger hills. We will have to work on his courage a bit and go more often to get other some of those fears. But you can't really blame the kid since he once broke his leg skiing.

At the end of the 6 weeks, they do the ski races, which is always crazy. Some kids just fly down the mountain with no regard to their safety, while others cruise by waving at the crowd. It's a lot of fun to watch. Boyd did good and while he said that he wanted to win a medal, I think he knew he probably wouldn't. Either way, we were so proud of him for doing his best and trying hard. Brewer on the other hand didn't express much about winning anything. I believe he didn't really understand what was happening and that you could "win". In the end, every kid in his little class got a medal but him, which was crushing to him. He sobbed and sobbed. We talked about how we can work harder again for next year and how we needed to be good sports to our friends who did win, but I think it all went in one ear and out the other in-between sobs. Poor kid. It even my made my momma heart want to burst too.
