Our sweet little Brewer has turned FOUR! It's so wonderful! He makes us laugh every day and it's really hard to no smoother him with hugs and kisses constantly. For his birthday we treated Brewer (a few days early) to school lunch with Boyd on waffle day. He was a little nervous to be around the chaos of all the other kids but you could tell that he thought it was special to be getting school lunch. Boyd also loved us being there and sharing part of his day with us. I do miss being able to volunteer at the school this year, but we'll get back to that soon enough.
On the day of his birthday he requested swedish pancakes and was excited to have him help. However, he was up WAY before that needed to happen. At about 5:15 I came out of Lola's room, having just fed her, and heard some strange shuffling noises. I paused to listen more carefully, figuring it would just be the kids adjusting in their sleep or maybe Boyd using the bathroom. I was wrong. At first I heard the noise again coming from the stairs and then I heard a little voice singing, "Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to Brewer." It was the cutest thing I have ever heard and really no surprise. Brewer had been looking forward to his birthday for a long time, he was so excited to turn four.
Breakfast was yummy and Boyd had the day off from school so there was no need to rush or hurry along. We could just enjoy each other. The day was then spent playing, napping, and wrapping presents. In the afternoon I needed to pick up doughnuts from the store and had all three kids. The problem was Lola was really tired and i wanted to get home before she fell asleep. So I left the boys in the car and carried Lola through the store, not in her carseat. It proved to be much more difficult to shop that way, but my confidence in our baby making skills sky rocketed. Everyone oohed and awed at her which was okay by me.
We convinced Brewer later to go run a couple errands with Phil and while they were gone, Boyd and assembled and decorated Brewer's cake. He was pretty excited about having a Dino Trux cake and thank you to Target, it was super simple. I took a little video of the cake "reveal" and it was pretty anticlimactic. He was so excited and then we he saw it the smile disappeared from his face and he was quiet. Then he said, "Where's Ty?" The red dino trux was wrapped in a different present from Grandma and Grandpa Thelin. He did seem to like it though and spent the next twenty minutes circling the table and the cake soaking it in.
For dinner, keeping things more simple for me, I told Brewer he could choose a place to have dinner. He picked the cheeseburger factory and we picked Grandma Great up on the way. It was a yummy dinner as usual but I could hardly get the boys to eat any of their fries, they were saving room for doughnuts. The rest is all the usual birthday fun, cake and presents. He said that his favorite were the balloons he got. He also got some more dino trux, water beads and binoculars. It was a successful day and he's already talking about his next birthday when he turns 5.
We love Brewer so much. He brings so much life and fun into our home and he has a lot of love to offer as well. In public he's still a little shy and it takes him a while to open up to people, but once he does he has a lot to say. He still takes a nap every day, usually for a couple hours and is FINALLY sleeping through the night. Hallelujah! He has a really good memory and a good imagination. He loves to be read to and his favorite show to watch is Mighty Machines, although he likes Dino Trux as well. He also really likes to help, especially in the kitchen making meals. It's great fun to have him as a little assistant chef.
With his new found energy from his surgery has he learned that he can give us a run for our money at times. It's like a new Brewer. I'm not really sure it's actually because of that, maybe it's just a phase, but he's learned that he can be mean and is really started taking fake crying to a whole new level. He does love to play with Boyd and they can manage pretty well together. Don't get me wrong though, they do have the typical brotherly relationship. One minute they love each other and are having a blast, the next minute they're fighting and crying. It's a work in progress. Brewer is also learning how to make excuses, which is sort of funny and sort of alarming. He's doing well as a sunbeam in primary, but most times would still prefer to be with me. Here before long we'll start some at home preschool and he couldn't be more thrilled to sit at the "preschool table bench and cut and use glue". We sure love our Brewer. He is an amazing example to us and has endured so much in his short little life. Keep up the great work little Lionheart!
