Our Home: The Tanning Salon

Phil and I wanted to put a little update on here, to let you know how our little guy is doing. The day that we left the hospital, the nurses informed us that Boyd's was going to have to be under phototherapy lights for at least a couple of days. Here's why: I have negative blood, and as it turned out Boyd has positive. This means that Boyd tested for something called positive combs, which basically means that when my blood got mixed in to his system during delivery, it recognized his blood as foreign and starts to make antibodies to fight against the difference. (We're still in the processes of understanding it all ourselves). This causes Boyd's bilirubin levels to increase (which are the same levels they test for Jaundice). Right now, he has to be in a little "tanning bed" until his bilirubin levels are back to normal. His blood was tested again this morning and while it increased by 0.1, the doctor was pleased. I guess days 3 and 4 of their lives tends to be when the their levels peak, so since his levels barley went up on day three, he was happy. We'll get him tested again on Saturday and see how things are looking. On the bright side, he seems to be enjoying himself in his little incubator and has been a really quiet baby. Unfortunately, he can only be out of the light while feeding, so the time that we get to hold him is fairly limited.

Are you laughing yet?

ohh I hope all goes well and he is out of the tanning bed soon. However he kinda looks cute in blue! So great that you got to take the light bed home and you didn't have to stay at the hospital with it.

That picture with all three of you is so sweet. Jerai looks incredible!!! I wish I could have looked like that. Baby Boyd's tanning bed looks pretty high tech - I hope he can get out of it soon. Love to all three of you!!
