Doctor Appointments and Utah Fun

The week of June 13th we had a crazy schedule with multiple doctor appointments in Utah. We knew we would meeting our out of pocket max, so we planned to get some things checked off our list. On Tuesday, Brewer had an appointment with Doctor Williams in Pocatello as well as an echo. Brewer did great again and everything looked really awesome for Brewer. Nothing to be worried about and we don't have to see cardiology for a year!! Woah!! It was such wonderful news and a huge accomplishment to be so healthy that we don't need to go back for so long. We were so grateful.

After his appointment we hopped back in the car and hurried to Salt Lake for Phil's 6 week check up on his leg. I did blog about it, but Phil had corrective surgery on his left leg, to make it straight again. It meant crutches for 6 weeks for Phil, but it also meant the hopefully last and final step to having a full recovery for him. His leg had felt so good during that 6 week time frame that Phil had started to bear weight on it early and was even walking on it fully before his check up. It made me really nervous, but Phil got the "all clear". Dr. Rothberg even told Phil that he doesn't expect people to follow the rules if they are feeling good. I am so happy that Phil is doing well since that surgery and there is more hope for him now in being able to get his body back and reduce other issues that come from a crooked leg.

Wednesday was the appointment I was dreading the most. It was a renal nuclear scan for Brewer to check on his kidneys. He's been through this procedure twice before and it was brutal, so sad. But once again, Brewer proved to us what a campion he was! He was a little sad when they poked his arm to place the IV, but other than that, he didn't mind too much being totally strapped down. The best news from it all was that his kidney function looked great! His left kidney is still larger than the right, but it finally drains at a normal and acceptable rate. Wahoo!! It means that we never have to go back and that we're finally done with urology. Also, isn't it amazing that in some cases the body can continue to develop and heal itself? We're so glad we didn't have to intervene with surgery or anything else!!

Thursday was the last day of appointments, but proved to be the longest. It took 3 hours from start to finish and there was very little wait time. Brewer's cardiologist recommended that we do a neuro developmental assessment because of little white spots that were found on his MRI a few months back. No one is too worried about the spots, but because there isn't much proven date and research on them, we are erring on the safe side. The appointment was long and divided up into different specialties. The first stop was the with the NP and a general assessment, next was a visit with cardiology and their nurse practicer Annie, who we knew. Next Brew had a visit with Audiology and had his hearing tested--they were worried about hearing loss because of all his ear infections and ruptured ear drums. He loved the tests they did for his hearing, he was all business. Next he met with the physiologist which seemed to be the longest (maybe most boring) part and lastly he met with speech therapy. Brewer was definitely tired by the end, but I was impressed with how he did with everyone, especially his social skills. I also think everyone was impressed with him and how well he participated. We will get the results from this appointment in a couple weeks, but thankfully all the appointments are over!! Hopefully no stops to the hospital or doctor for quite a long time!!!

The kids had a blast in Utah in between all the doctor appointments. They helped Grandma Moulton plants flowers, spread lady bugs over the roses, went to will and went swimming at Riverside. Boyd even built up  his courage and jumped off the high dive which earned him the biggest snowie at Beth's Red Barn snowie. And we always have fun with cousin Claire and Weston too.
