I kind of just want to sit here and bawl. This baby girl needs to stop growing and getting bigger!! She is just too perfect and good! I am so grateful that she is so sweet and, while she still has her moments because she's a baby, I wouldn't change a thing about her.
Lola has fallen in to a pretty good schedule. She takes three naps during the day. They aren't always very long, but that usually doesn't matter because she's happy either way. She usually wakes up between 8 and 8:30, some times we have to wake her up to take Boyd to school, but she's patient and waits to eat until we get home. Then she goes to bed for the night at 9, nurses and passes out cold. This past month she has been up a little more during the night, but for good reason. SHE GOT A TOOTH!! We were in shock. She had been a little grumpy and chewing on her hands like crazy. I investigated, sure I was crazy, and lo and behold, there was a little tooth (her bottom left) trying to push it's way through. It cut all the way through just before our trip to Sun Valley, just before she turned 4 months. Because of the tooth we had some grumpy afternoons, but nothing a little snuggling and comfort nursing couldn't cure. The old mom, or brand new mom would have not been up for that, but this mom of three enjoyed the extra cuddles and time snuggled up on the couch.
Besides growing a tooth, Lola become much more aware of her surroundings this month. She loves to watch the boys play, listen and sit on my lap while I play the piano and loves the sound of her Dad's voice. If he's in the room it's almost impossible to feed her. But I love it. She falling in love with all of those boys. She also seems to be falling in love more and more with her mom. She definitely already prefers her mom to anyone else. And right now, I'm okay with that. She also loves music. If she's upset, we just pop on a little pandora or some music on the mormon channel and she calms right down.
She enjoys the jungle gym and rolls from side to side, for a few weeks she preferred her left side and would rotate to her left 360 degrees, like a clock. The kids thought it was great and they were so proud of her. She discovered her hands a little bit, realizing that she may have just a bit of control over them. However and control she did have, commanded them straight to her mouth.
There were other noteworthy events that happened during this month. Boyd has continued to do very well in school. He loves math and is a great reader. Over the past month he has finished a few Magic Treehouse Chapter books. He also participated in Winter Sports at the school and had the ski races on his last day. He did great and tried his best. On the day of the races I took Brewer and Lola up to the mountain, which was way more work than I thought it would be, but it was worth it. We were able to watch Boyd race, Brewer tried skiing on the bunny hill and Lola just hung out with us looking darling in her purple snowsuit.
Back in January we had a bump on Brewer's head looked at because it wasn't going away. She recommended a CT to be certain what was going on. She also recommended that we do it at PCH where the techs are top notch and the equipment is the best in the country offering the least amount of radiation. Phil had started his new job, more to come on that in another post, and couldn't take any time off work. So, with much anxiety, I scheduled the appointment and hauled all the kids, by myself down to Salt Lake for Brewer's appointment. I offered a lot of prayers and I think there were others (Grandmas) that day who did as well. It paid off. Not only did Lola do well in the car and with all the traveling, but all the timing worked out so well. It really couldn't have gone better. I was so thankful. As always, Brewer was a champ for the CT scan. He picked spongebob to watch while they were taking the picture (how does he even know what that is?) and then held super still. Star patient!! He said afterwards that his favorite part was when the tech asked him to stop chewing his gum. Funny kid. We didn't get the results for a few weeks, but the CT scan revealed that the bump was an arachnoid cyst. Seriously? Poor kid. I was pretty heart-broken to learn that it wasn't a calcified hematoma. While it isn't too serious (Stephen and Beth both have one) I just wish the kid could have a break. This momma heart wishes so badly that I could take it all away from him. I'm sure there is a lesson in it for all of us, but for now I'm bummed.
The next step is to get an MRI and to see a neurosurgeon. I'm guessing they'll just monitor the size and wait for any symptoms if he has any. Sadly, Brewer has had a change of behavior. It could be a result of the bump, of Lola or just a phase he's going though, but he's REALLY grumpy. He complains a lot, mostly of being cold, tired or his stomach hurting. I'm guessing those symptoms could be connected to his heart too. I'm trying not to worry too much and just chalk it up to a phase, but it will be good to talk to a specialist, both for his head and his heart. I'm not sure I'll even be able to stop worrying about that kid! Thankfully, our ward and especially our bishopric has been very understanding about Brewer's need to stay healthy. Together we have come up with a plan that allows him to go to primary and hopefully keeps germs to a minimum. I am so grateful for their help, understanding and support!!
After the appointment we stopped in to Lehi to see Steve and Rachel and their new house! It's always great fun to see them and their cute kids! Rachel and I even made a dinner trip to costco. The next day, before we headed home, I had planned to take the kids through the Provo City Center Temple open house. I am so glad that I did! I hope the boys will remember that! It was pretty neat to walk what used to be where we went to stake conference. Nate was even kind enough to meet us there and come through to help with the kids.
The last notable event for this month of Lola's life was her fist visit to Sun Valley!! She turned 4 months while we were there and even went for her very first dip in the pool! She loved it! And she was adorable in her swimsuit and headband! Sadly, I don't have a great picture of her in the pool or in her suit, but she was so content in the warm pool! More to come about Sun Valley in the next post!! Now the best part...pictures of this beautiful baby girl!!!
