Boyd was so excited for his first day of school! And we were excited for him too. We really weren't worried about how he would get along. He's old for his grade and LOVES to learn. Plus he has a really awesome teacher, Ms. Brinkerhoff. Once we got to school, he marched right in, wasn't too thrilled to stop and take a picture, and hung up his bag and settled right in to his seat. I told myself I wasn't going to cry and to help that goal, I didn't stay long. He was happy, he gave Brewer a hug goodbye, I felt a wave of emotion rolling over me, and we were on our way.
He has really enjoyed Kindergarten and is doing so well. He's in the top reading group and does pretty good writing his numbers and letters already. A few weeks into school they did the Idaho Reading Indicator Test (IRI) and Boyd was well above the benchmark and their next goal. Knowing 11+ letter names (doesn't that seem low?) is the where the benchmark is set for the beginning of the school year. Their next test will be in the winter and their goal is 33 letter names and 17 letter sounds. Boyd scored 48 letter names in one minutes and 27 letter sounds. We are so proud of him and the progress that he is making in reading. I have also been able to volunteer once a week and i thoroughly enjoy seeing Boyd interact and participate in his class.
