Fall Is Here!!

With football season underway it's safe to say that Fall is officially here. Although I would argue that falls come with the turning of the leaves, which happens before football season in Driggs as well as before anywhere else. All my life I have been excited for the seasons to change and have loved fall. However, since living in Teton Valley I find myself hanging on to summer for as long as possible for a few reasons. The first is Summer really is too short here compared to the length of winter. The second is the fear that comes with fall: pre-winter. And this Fall has already proved to be no different with 2 days of snow in the month of September (boo!!). Usually the month of September provides plenty of warm days, this year has been quite cool. In between the cool days and working at the shop, we have still managed to have fun, start new projects and keep with old traditions.
In keeping with tradition we set up the projector in the garage and invited friends to come over the BYU vs Utah football game. Preparations, planning, and setting up was fun. Boyd was especially excited to watch the game and even more excited for his friends to come over. We had our friends come a little aerly and we shot off bike pump rockets, which are always a hit with the kids. Once everyone arrived, Phil grilled up wing and awesome burgers and we enjoyed the game, as much as we could. Brewer was a little stinker for most of the night. Or maybe it just felt that we because we thought he would sleep the entire time. =) Sadly BYU lost and at long last Brewer went to sleep. Maybe he has more of his Dad in him than he lets on and needed to watch to the bitter end.
In september I started doing a home school preschool program with Boyd. It's really been amazing and perfect for him (and me!). So far he has learned about apples and dinosaurs in addition to the red, green, 1, 2, A, B, and D (including the signs). It's been fun for me to watch him learn and soak everything in. Every day we do the Pledge of Allegiance and after one month he's got it down. But in the beginning he would say, "...one nation, under God's plan..." It was hilarious and so sweet. And really I think it should be a permanent change. He has really enjoyed the dinosaur section and has an even greater fascination with the dinosaurs. His favorite dinosaurs are the Velcoraptors because they are fierce and the Trodon because it is clever. More than all of that, the one on one time that we spend together is the most valuable part. Like all kids he desires that attention and it is important to him. It's also very important to me. Sometimes I forget to slow down and soak in the time with my kids. This really allows me to do that with Boyd. I can't wait to keep learning with him and keep making memories together.
Boyd has continued to like riding his dirt bike and Brewer has really started showing interest in it as well. Brewer has even climbed up onto it a couple time by himself. Brewer climbs everywhere now. I realize that we are lucky that it took Brewer so long (maybe because he was too short before?) to climb up onto things. His favorite place to climb is up to my sink in the bathroom. There turns on the sink and plays in the water. He has also figured out how to use the stool. While this makes things a little more complicated with keeping the counter clear, it seems to have made him a little less whiney and more happy. Brewer has also learned how to go down slides by himself, help detail and he even had his first bowl of cereal WITH milk. He's a terrible eater but loves utensils.
One weekend in September, Phil was invited to come ride a dirt bike track in Rexburg. We even brought Boyd's bike and went around the track a few times with Phil. We were so proud of Boyd for giving it a try and doing so well. He crashed once, but Phil convinced him to give it another try and he did great! It was a fun afternoon.
In September we were also busy being domestic. We canned peaches, peach filling made four peach pies, and 10 freezer meals, which I traded with 9 other friends for a different freezer meal and one Jazz birthday cake. While we felt very accomplished with everything we were able to get done, I was glad for it to be over and for my cupboards and freezer to be full.
