Boyd's 5th Birthday

I can't believe that Boyd is FIVE! In the month or so before his birthday he had a little growth spurt. At least I feel like he did. All of a sudden in the month of September he seemed so old to me. There were many times where I found myself emotional and figured I would be an emotional wreck on his birthday. Pop Pop kept telling Boyd that he would throw a fit if he turned five and wanted him to stay four. Boyd told him it didn't work that way. Another day I was telling Boyd if I cried on his birthday they would be happy tears. Boyd asked me why I would cry and I said because I always wanted him to love me when he got older. He told me that he would love me when he got back from his mission. Such a sweet boy!!
Boyd's birthday was on Sunday and so we decided to have his friends come over on Monday. He still got to participate in some birthday festivities. In the morning we had planned waffles, but then we realized it was fast Sunday so we let Boyd pick sugar cereal. Then we called Grandma Thelin on FaceTime and Boyd opened his present from her and Grandpa Thelin, a puzzle, Peter Pan and a kite (that came a few days later). It was perfect and he got to watch the movie before church, when he was all ready. After church we had birthday waffles for dinner and sang happy birthday. Boyd also got to FaceTime with Emmett, Amy and Clark and Emmett even sang happy birthday. It was pretty darn cute.  Shortly after dinner I finished Boyd's Jazz Cake and he was excited. However, the expectations were low. After each phase of the cake assembly and decoration I would tell Boyd that the cake was done and asked him if he liked it. Each time he got very excited and told me that he loved it!! It was funny and very sweet at the same time. When it was finally done he really was excited about everything on the cake. It was a tad bit of work but totally worth it for Boyd.
After dinner we headed over to celebrate one of Boyd's friends Birthday, Kennady, who was turning 4. While we were there she opened her presents and got a hugging Elmo that was pretty much the size of Brewer. While the kids were all excited about Elmo, we put Brewer in the Elmo box. He thought it was pretty funny and actually stayed in for quite a while. The others kids thought it was hilarious and kept shaking his hand that stuck out the hole in the box.
When we got home Boyd picked one present to open, a BYU football uniform (which will also double for his Halloween costume). Shortly after that he got to FaceTime with Grandma Moulton, Pop Pop, Beth, Quinton, Rachel, Steve and Claire. He opened his present from them too, a BYU shirt and his first Lego set. I might have been more excited for him than he was about the Lego's. I have so many fond memories of Lego's growing up and I still love them, so much that I am excited to do it with Boyd. Still later Boyd was able to FaceTime with Grayson and Emilie before bed.
Monday Boyd invited some friends over and we sang happy birthday, ate cake, and opened a few more presents. From his friends he got a Toy Story 3 game and helicopter launcher. Both toys have been a hit with both Boyd and Brewer. He also got dirt bike gear, dinosaurs, a book and some pencils. The kid is pretty easy to please. We were so grateful for Boyd friends that came over and helped celebrate. That was easily his favorite part. He's really enjoying friends right now and it's a little harder to have play dates because we have to keep germs away.
Boyd is the best kid around. The best we could have ever asked for. He has always had the desire to help, please and has an inquisitive mind. He remembers everything and tells us he loves us all the time. He very ticklish and loves to wrestle. And snuggle. He loves books and loves to learn. He loves just about everything that his dad does, BYU, the Jazz, dirt biking, golfing, playing baseball, fishing, etc. He is very good at listening and following direction (which was huge when Brewer was born). His favorite color is green, favorite breakfast day is Tuesday, Sugar Cereal Day, and favorite dinner Wednesday Ramen Noodle Night (don't judge). He is always making us laugh with the funny things that he says, many of which we have written down. He's a good brother and helps with shoes, diapers, and the car seat all the time. I could keep going on...but let's just say that we love Boyd! He's the best and we are very blessed that he's ours!
