A Night to Laugh About & Some Pics

Last night was a little crazy. With the help of Infant & Toddler I decided to be a little more proactive about nursing Brewer. So I thought the middle of the night feed would be a good time to start because it's a time of day when I have more than enough milk to feed him. So things started out well and he nursed okay. Then he spit up all over, but not that big of a deal. Then his sensor failed to get a read and the monitor started beeping it's loud annoying beep. And I couldn't do anything about it because the monitor was all the way across the room. When I got done nursing Brewer, we burped some more and changed his diaper. I attempted to fix his sensor so we could keep monitoring his oxygen. But I couldn't get it to work. Nothing I did made it work. I even switched it out with another one and it wouldn't work. Ahh. And his oxygen tank was low too. So I thought I was going to have to change that out. I woke Phil and up and we decided just to put his cannula on and leave him on very low amount of oxygen since we can't monitor him. The trouble was that I couldn't find our extra stickers that go on either temple to keep the cannula on. While I was searching the house with Brewer in tow, he filled his diaper again, a full fledged blow out. That was a fun mess to clean up. While cleaning him all up he peed everywhere. Sheesh. What else could go wrong?! Since I couldn't find the little stickers I pulled out the supplies for the feeding tube, which consists of adhesive, a soft patch to protect his skin from the tub, and Tegaderm to hold everything in place. All the pieces were too big so I had to cut everything down. Then four different pieces of Tegaderm folded on itself when I tried to place it on his face rendering them useless. FOUR! Poor Brewer was getting upset by now. But we managed to get him all cleaned up and put back together with the cannula in place, all at about 3 30 at night. He was so tired and fell asleep, but then had a hard time staying comfortable because he's not used to the cannula. After he settled down, I still had to pump. I'm not posting this to complain, because even though I was up for almost 2 hours, I had patience and felt lifted and helped through it. As I write this I can even smile a little at the craziness! Hopefully in the future when our family reads this we'll be able to laugh and try to remember how crazy some moments in our lives were. And we'll be in awe of how we managed it all. Of course we'll know it's through the divine help of our Savior and Heavenly Father who continues to lift us and strengthen us.

A little picture update:

Two sleepy boys on the drive to Utah for an appointment at PCMC--it lasted 10 minutes...

Ultrasound

Renal Nuclear Scan--he screamed and screamed getting started then zonked out. Not looking forward to having another one of those...

They use warm sand bags to keep them still. He LOVED them!

Watching the fluid/medicine go through his body. You can see his left kidney is still larger than the right.

I also chopped my hair in Utah.

Boyd and cousin Quinner: Handsome boys!

Jenna is my hero! She's amazing, period.

Phil figured out how to swaddle AND buckle this kid. It's made him a bit better at traveling. Thank goodness!

2 MONTHS

Brothers
Boyd loves Brewer and is SO SO helpful!

Summer buzz cut.

Boyd gathering the laundry and putting in the washer! He even will put the wash in the dryer and turn the dryer on. AND clean the lint catcher out. Did I mention he was helpful? He also is really good about helping me move Brewer around the house. It's a little tricky since he's plugged into oxygen and hooked up to his monitor. So Boyd will either drive the oxygen tank (it's on wheels and his favorite) or unplug the monitor and then plug it back in the new room we moved to. The days would be much more challenging without him around. =)

Boyd got to out with Phil, Carlo, and Emrie to Idaho Falls this last week. Phil said that he had a great time! He gets along with Emrie so well. They just talk and talk and talk and talk and laugh at each other. It's so cute.

Lunch at Chick Fil A

Shopping at Sams Club

Like most babies, Brewer loves the bath! He gets one most nights before bed!

We've been needing more oxygen lately. He sounds pretty stuffy so I'm hoping that's all it is. But his oxygen saturation is supposed to down between his first and second surgeries. So I guess we're on the right track. It means he's growing.

Aunt Amy was in Teton Valley for a few days! We were so happy to have her visit!

This kid will ALWAYS smile for his DAD. =)

A stressful moment that involved first, screaming, secondly, swinging Brew in his carseat to help calm him down, third, duct taping his oxygen to shirt so I could keep swinging him, fourth, a desperate call to Phil, and fifth, Brewer finally calming down as Phil walks in the door and followed by smiles for Dad!

I'm so happy for the update!! Boyd's buzz is adorable. I seriously have the cutest nephews! I can't believe little stinker Brewer- giving you "heck" and then happy and smiley right when Phil came home to be a reinforcement. Funny how that happens. I also love that you duct taped the cord to his shirt. Hey, whatever works. I'm glad things are going... I know they're not going great, but going, all the same. I hope to be able to come out and see you guys soon. We love you all so much!

Oh Jerai, I totally remember those long nights where you are up for hours at a time and everything goes wrong. I love that you felt calm and were given peace- what a blessing! I can't even imagine dealing with oxygen and cords and cables too! You are doing such a great job! I love your new hair doo- and I giggled a little when I saw the pull up bar- our husbands would seriously be buddies! I have one up too :)
