Sun Valley 2011

I'm so excited to write about this vacation. It's one of my favorite vacations. It's so nice to be able to spend so much one-on-one time with Phil's family. This year, everyone in the Moulton clan was able to come. Amy & Clark came from South Carolina, Grayson & Emilie from Cedar City, and the rest of the gang came from Provo. Another perk to living in Driggs, is that it is fairly close to Sun Valley. Our drive was only 3 1/2 hours. Boyd had a check up for his broken leg on our way out which was great because it made our trip feel even shorter.

We got to Ketchum on Thursday and hung out for a couple of hours while we waited for everyone else to come. Well not everyone, Grayson and Emilie weren't able to come until Friday night.  We took Boyd around the resort and showed him all of the fun things we were going to be doing. We headed out to show Boyd the pool and there were about 30 grown men in the pool all with drinks. It was so funny. They were all ooo-ing and ahh-ing over Boyd and his broken leg. One guy kept asking us if he could sign Boyd's cast.

Thursday we just settled in, caught up, and looked forward to getting on the ski hill in the morning.
Friday we had breakfast and everyone with the exception of Mom and Boyd headed out to ski. We are so grateful to Mom for watching Boyd all day! It really is a treat for Phil and I to be able to go out and do something together!!  Beth, Clark and I went to Dollar Mountain (for us less experienced in winter sports) and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was able to go at my own pace and I actually felt like I might have gotten a bit better. After lunch, the boys and Rachel and Amy came from Balde and we all enjoyed skiing together. Phil and his brothers enjoyed playing at the Dollar Mountain's terrain park. I tried to take some pictures of them going off the jumps, but I didn't do so well.

After we got back from skiing everyone was ready to head to the pool. The pool is really like a giant hot tub. It's great. And thank goodness we got Boyd a waterproof cast. Swimming was one of his top two favorite activities.

Going to the pool.

People gave us more looks, questions, and compassion with Boyd's cast. It was actually quite funny.
My handsome boys. (Don't you love how the whole pool is steaming!!)

Boyd's other favorite thing was to feed the ducks. Steve and Amy were champs and took him out all the time to go see and feed the ducks. He loved them and he loved his aunt and uncle! And we loved the extra help with Boyd.

Boyd and Aunt Amy

Saturday was great. Mom and Dad had to leave Friday night, to attend a funeral, which just left us kids. It was fun to hang out with everyone, but we would have liked to have Mom and Dad around. Almost everyone went skiing again on Saturday. Boyd and I hung out with Amy and Clark. It was nice to be able to just hang out and relax.

Boyd thought he was so big cutting his pizza. It may look like he knows what he's doing in this picture, but he can't actually cut his pizza, he just tries. And yes, that's the cup that uncle Steve picked out for Boyd to use, a goblet. =) And root beer. Needless to say, it was pretty entertaining watching Boyd eat dinner.

After Mom and Dad got back Saturday night, the whole family went bowling. I was looking forward to bowling because I knew Boyd would enjoy it. As the night progressed it turns out I was wrong. He didn't like it and it kind of turned into a bit of a nightmare. But on the bright side I bowled a great score. I think it was like 125. Another high point of the night was when Phil scored two stuffed animals from the arcade game. He was 2 for 3. Not bad, eh?

Boyd with his first win! See the leopard in the machine, that was the next prize. =)

Boyd, Grandma, & Grandpa

Sunday everyone laid low. We got to church at 9, but it didn't start until 10. Most everyone left for that hour, but I opted to stay with Beth and Quin and let Boyd play with the toys in the nursery. Then church was terrible. It was Boyd's worst church experience ever. He just cried. So I took him into a room and let him cry. After he had a nap he did better. Unfortunately, we had to move rooms and it was a little chaotic, but we managed and got resettled. We played some good games, buzz word and spoons. The boys were the winners of buzz word and Steve and I were both two time champions of spoons. It was fun and we only managed minimal battle wounds.

Oh yeah, and how could I forget the game of pass the orange. You know the one. Where you have to pass an orange that you hold in your neck to someone else. Well Mom and Dad played that one by themselves. Where was my camera for that!!!

The day we left some of us went cross country skiing. I was really looking forward to doing this. I was able to do it two years ago and I really enjoyed it. Phil and most everyone else did it last year too. This might have been the highlight of our trip. We took Boyd to the daycare, which he loved, and we headed out to rent our equipment. I don't really feel like I have a natural talent for snowboarding, but I feel like I do with snow skating. It was great to be able to be out with family, with beautiful scenery, and doing something that is fun, not to mention it's burning calories. It was great! I can't wait to do it again!

Jerai & Beth
I have to say that I was very impressed with Beth. She did so good!

Enjoying the view. It was beautiful the whole way, but some places were stunning!

Amy and I stopped on this bridge. The view of the river, the rocks, and the snow was beautiful! The picture doesn't do it justice!

One last shot in front of the lodge before we left. It's always sad to leave, but great knowing we get the chance to come back next year.

P.S. Don't you like the giant ski sock over Boyd's leg. During daycare Boyd was going to go on a sleigh ride and they were going to be outside for quite awhile. Since his snow boot wouldn't fit over his leg we had to come up with something else. Phil's ski sock. And he loved the sleigh ride. The lady told us he wanted to ride in the front to see the horses, and liked it the most out of any other kid. I'm so glad he got to do something fun, while we were out doing something fun with out him!
