The days we went down to Moab were just before Easter. We stayed in Utah for the weekend because both Phil and Brewer had doctor appointments the following Tuesday. It's always so much fun to be at Grandma and Pop Pop's for Easter. Sadly, Friday night both Lola and Brewer came down with the stomach flu. They both handled it really well and Brewer was feeling fine the next day, up for the easter egg hunt that Grandma planned. Claire, Weston and even Brisbane were all there too. Grandma also helped the kids decorate Easter egg too. They had a lot of fun. Unfortuatley, I came down with the same stomach bug Sunday morning and stayed home with Lola and Brewer. Phil is a great husband and dad, but he steps up his game even more when the stomach bug hits. He took care of Brewer through the night when he was sick, took care of Lola when I was sick and then took care of Boyd when he got sick Sunday night. It wasn't our best weekend and I was bummed I missed so much of Easter. I was really looking forward to getting Lola in to her Easter dress and flower crown!
Tuesday we left bright and early, actually it was dark still, to get Brewer up to Riverton for his brain MRI. Long story short, in October I realized there was a bump on Brewer's head that I hadn't noticed before, just behind his left temple. After 6 weeks or so I had his pediatrician look at it who referred us to a PCH doctor and ordered a CT scan. After the CT she referred us to neurosurgery who wanted an MRI. Sheesh. Poor kid. He did well, like always, during the MRI, despite having to be poked three times to get his IV placed (angry face). After the MRI we headed up for Phil's ortho check up and then the follow up appointment at PCH with neuro surgery. Thankfully Brewer's head was not an arachnoid cyst, like we had been led to believe, and instead just open space, filled by spinal fluid. No big deal. The MRI did reveal however, little dots in the brain. There's no clear theory on what they could be. Later we found out from Brew's cardiologist that they are often found in brain scans of people who have undergone multiple surgeries at a young age. He recommended getting a baseline test done at PCH to be able to track any changes there may be as he got older in his behavior and skills. Ugh. Poor kid.
Because I didn't get to dress up my kids for Easter, we did it a few weeks later for Stake Conference. When we got to the Stake Center fifteen minutes early all the soft seats were taken so we camped out in the priesthood room, which ended up being really great. The kids colored at the table and I could nurse Lola in there too. It was pretty effective in getting more out of the talks with kids in tow. After church we snapped some pictures which I love so much. Those kids are beautiful and Phil and I have been entrusted to raise them, we are so grateful for that opportunity.
It seems each year Easter takes on an even greater meaning for our family. I know that each one of us will be restored to our perfect frame. Brewer's heart will be whole and it was function correctly, Phil's body will be healed and he won't have to endure the pain any more and I will even get my hair and eyebrows back! I am so grateful for the knowledge we have of the plan of salvation. I am grateful for a loving Heavenly Father and I am grateful for a brother Jesus Christ who performed what no one else could so we can live forever with the people we love. Happy belated Easter!! He lives, and so can we!
