20 Week Ultrasound: You Know What That Means!

We've been looking forward to October 20th for quite a few weeks now. Thankfully we have been so busy at the shop and party planning that the time flew by fast, especially this week. So today Phil, Boyd, and I headed down to Idaho Falls for my monthly check-up and 20 week comprehensive ultrasound. We were all so excited to catch a glimpse of our baby and to finally find out the gender.  Boyd was still so set on the baby being a girl and having a little sister. I think he had us all convinced.

Thirty seconds into the ultrasound, the technician asked if we wanted to know the gender and promptly showed us that it was a BOY. I think Phil and I were both a little surprised and a little relieved at the same time. We know boys. We've done it before, we have all the stuff, and we're comfortable with boys. We're mostly excited for Boyd to have a little brother that he can be best friends with. We couldn't be happier.

Here's the shot of his 'manhood'. If you look close you can see that he's holding on. Our ultrasound technician told us that he was "all boy."
=)

It was great to be able to lay there and just watch our baby boy for a good fifteen or twenty minutes. To see his heart pumping, his arms, legs, hands, spine, and every other bit of him. Everything looked perfect, except one of his kidneys was slightly enlarged. Sometimes the there can be a blockage in the kidney not allowing the fluid to escape which causes it to enlarge. But the amount of fluid around the kidney (stomach, bladder, etc.) looked really good and normal. So I'm going to see a perinatologist on Monday to get their opinion and then most likely his kidney will just need to be monitored. So for now we are just looking forward to Monday and hopefully getting some more information. And we're glad that the his second kidney looked great.

Yaaay so exciting! Two boys just seems to fit for you guys for some reason. I'm so happy for you. And I'm sure everything will be fine with the kidney. I've seen that happen in the past and I feel like most of the time it ends up not being a problem...but I'm not an expert so I guess we'll see what they say on Monday. Either way he's a cute little thing and I love that Boyd is going to have a brother! Keep us posted! I'm getting so excited to see you soon, too!

ahhhh honestly...I'm soo happy for you. I think having a girl would have been fun, I love girls...but I love that he's going to have a brother close in age. You can have a girl next time :)

also..the enlarged kidney..Emi's Carly had that too. And it ended up fixing itself and being totally fine by birth. More common than I thought.

oh and ya...it will be so nice to just have all the stuff. I was just telling Taryn a girl would have been easier to have. We wouldn't have to prepare as much. :)
